This acrylic, oil, and ink painting was created in several sessions of impulsive and improvised strokes, without a great deal of explicit intention as to what the result may be, beyond a portrait.  The painting is 24″ x 36″ on canvas, and was completed in the Fall of 2025.

John Gianniny is an artist and educator based in New York.  Much of his painting and illustrative work present striking abstracted portraits with nuanced or extreme emotional affect and bold colors, abruptly layered over one another until a sense of balance is achieved in both expression and composition.
